"Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of the cross" - words from the Baptism service
Baptism is a ‘sacrament’ (a holy ritual to symbolise grace) in a Christian tradition that we trace back to Jesus himself being baptized in the river Jordan. Baptism marks the start of the journey of faith. Through Baptism we become members of the worldwide Christian family of the Church.
In Baptism, we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. In the Anglican Church it is common to baptise young children; this is sometimes also known as christening. You can be baptised at any of our six churches and welcomed into God’s family, the Church.
