St. Mary's at Masham
Overview
St Mary’s Church overlooks Masham’s market place and offers a prayerful haven in the middle of this vibrant market town.
SERVICES
Sunday services are normally Services of Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion at 8am every Sunday and Holy Communion services at 10.45am, except the first Sunday of the month when we have Sunday Worship (also 10.45am). There are lots of ways to join in the vibrant life of our church community. Many events are held at St Mary's, throughout the year. Our North Aisle Project is now complete and we have a superb place for hospitality before, during and after the events that we host. The church is open for private prayer, and if you leave a request for prayer in the board beside the candlestand, rest assured that we will join our prayers with yours.
HISTORY
Looking at St. Mary's church, it is not difficult to see why it was included in Simon Jenkins' England's Thousand Best Churches. The first written evidence we have for Masham church is recorded in the Domesday Survey in 1086, but the architectural evidence points to the existence of a church in the Anglo-Saxon period (there is a Saxon cross in the grave yard). The present church dates mainly from the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries but virtually every century has seen additions or alterations to the fabric of the building.
